The Special Court of Appeal has upheld the prison sentence for Fredi Beleri.

Today, the court rejected the request to change the measure for the elected mayor of Himara, Fredi Beleri.

Beleri has been arrested since May 12 last year, accused of buying votes in the May 14 elections, in which he received the majority of votes in the municipality of Himara.

He, together with the Greek government, call the arrest politically motivated, and Greece has even threatened to veto Albania's integration into the European Union.

We remind you that regarding the case of Fredi Beleri, Athens has received a clear and decisive answer from the European Commission.

Greek MEP Anna-Michelle Assimakopoulou has tried to make this issue a problem in the EC. In her discussion, she said that the issue of Fredi Beleri, who is not even allowed to be sworn in as mayor, is bigger than the disputes between the two countries.

But the Greek MEP was strongly opposed by the High Official of the European Commission, Thomas Hagleitner, who said that the "Beleri" issue is a European issue.

The head of the Unit responsible for Western Balkan Regional Policy and Strategy, Neighborhood and Enlargement Negotiations in the European Commission has said that this is a matter of justice and therefore should not be commented on.

" This case belongs to justice, we do not comment on cases that are under trial and we support SPAK on this issue ," said Hagleitner.

The prosecution accuses Beleri of "active corruption in the elections", claiming that he has proven beyond any doubt that he had offered a police associate 50 euros for every vote he could find in his favor as mayor of Himara. His accomplice, Pandeli Kokaveshi, is accused of the same criminal act.

Beleri has made several requests to get out of the cell in order to be sworn in and take office as Mayor of Himara, but they have been rejected by all levels of the courts.

Fredi Beleri was caught red-handed with his accomplice, Pandeli Kokaveshi, buying votes. Beleri could not take office, as the judicial authorities did not give him permission to take the oath. / Pamphlet
