President Bajram Begaj has decreed the date for holding the mayoral elections in Himara. After the removal by the CEC of the mandate of Fredi Beler, President Begaj set the date August 4, for the holding of local elections in Himare Municipality.
A few minutes ago, Begaj invited the head of the CEC to the presidency to discuss the date of the elections and the readiness of the CEC to organize them. In the announcement of the presidency, it is stated that August 4 was chosen to give enough time to the candidates to campaign.

Tirana, on July 5, 2024/ The President of the Republic, Sh.TZ Bajram Begaj decrees the elections for mayor in Himare municipality.
Today, the Council of Ministers officially notified the President of the Republic of the vacancy created in the municipality of Himare due to the invalidity of the mandate won by Mr. Dhionisios (Alfred) Petro Beleri and asked for the date of the elections to be set, within the deadlines set by the Electoral Code.
The elected mayor of the Himarë municipality has been found by the Central Elections Commission to be under the conditions of the invalidity of the mandate, due to the punishment with a final decision for the criminal offense of "active corruption in the elections", provided by article 328 of the Criminal Code of Republic of Albania.
The President of the Republic, Mr. TZBajram Begaj called Mr. Ilirjan Celibashi, State Commissioner of Elections to be informed about the capacities and readiness of the election management institution, for the conduct of elections in this municipality, within the calendar framework of the Electoral Code.
After this consultation, the President of the Republic, Sh. TZBajram Begaj, decreed the date 4 August 2024 for the conduct of the mayoral elections in the municipality of Himare, as the best alternative that reconciles the need for the preparation and development of a regular election campaign and the need for the preparation optimal electoral administration, with the conditions, circumstances and load that the tourist season brings for the municipality of Himarë, as a coastal unit of local government.
