Minister of Justice Ulsi Manja supports the proposal to extend the mandate of SPAK prosecutors.
"The fate of SPAK prosecutors after the end of the mandate? Manja: SPAK prosecutors have a 9-year mandate without the right to election. Does it have the right to clarify? If you want my opinion, at the end of the day there is no reason why a group of prosecutors who have experience in the fight against corruption should compete in the high prosecutor's council to be part of this structure again? Undoubtedly yes. Guarantee of an equivalent position? Apparently so. I think that SPAK prosecutors have no reason not to be re-elected, and secondly, they should not lose the legal guarantees they have won," said Manja at the Law Commission.
The Special Anti-Corruption Structure (SPAK) made a request to the Assembly of Albania that the mandate of the prosecutors is not 9 years, but unlimited. In the letter that SPAK has sent to the deputies, it states that the limited mandate is not a good solution, as this creates greater costs and crime is not fought properly.
