The former prosecutor of Serious Crimes, Eugen Beçi, while commenting on the release from prison of the former minister Saimir Tahiri, said that he was sentenced in vain.
According to him, the new justice created exactly at the time of Tahir's arrest should have statistics, and for these statistics he arrested a former Minister of the Interior, even without full evidence.
" Regardless of the personal evaluations we may have of his work as a person who, at the time he headed the Ministry of the Interior, Albania grew green with cannabis, we must say that this is a typical example of a person, in my opinion, he went to prison for nothing , got out of prison in vain. Why? Considering that a person is investigated for drug trafficking and organized criminal group, from the point of view of the evidential alternative in court there should be only one alternative, or to prove drug trafficking in the form of organized criminal group and this person should be punished and not be played with mechanisms, then since we don't have evidence of trafficking, we can find a shoestring to punish him for abuse of duty. This character was either convicted of drug trafficking or acquitted", said Beci in "Euronews Albania".
