Veting towards the end/ 99 resigned who benefited from 50% of the salary, the

The vetting process, considered one of the most important anti-corruption operations that Albania has ever undertaken, is coming to an end. 20% of judges and prosecutors, or about 160 subjects, are left to pass through the vetting filter. Out of 805 judges and prosecutors, 99 subjects have resigned, to avoid confrontation with Veting. Among the 99 prosecutors, judges and legal assistants who have resigned since the vetting law was approved, 15 subjects resigned during 2022, while the Independent Qualification Commission has found the resignation of five subjects during the first five months of 2023.

The Law on Veting, in Article 56, amended with the intervention of the Constitutional Court, provides that every judge and prosecutor who resigns, avoiding Veting, benefits from 3 monthly salaries as well as 50 percent of the reference salary, as long as they have worked in justice, but no more than 3 years from the moment of resignation. So, every prosecutor and judge who resigned in 2020 continues to receive half the salary even today. Any subject who resigns in 2023 receives half the salary until 2026.

Meanwhile, of the prosecutors and judges who have appeared before the Vetting Commission, more than half have been dismissed from office, mainly for unjustified wealth with legal sources, but also for connection with crime and for professional criteria. However, most of the judges and prosecutors who have been dismissed or resigned have turned into lawyers.

Some judges and prosecutors, especially at the Appeal level, have found that they did not justify assets worth millions of euros. The United States of America and the European Union have requested the investigation and criminal punishment of these subjects, seizing their assets. But, even though the Vetingu law has been operating for 5 years, highlighting obviously corrupt subjects, until today no judge or prosecutor has been punished due to exposure from Vetingu.
