Journalist Klodiana Lala commented on the situation in the State Police.
According to Lala, one of the biggest problems over the years in the State Police has been the rank system, where many officials who deserved promotions have never received them.
" What is important to me today? The rank system in the State Police. Not everyone can be elected general director of the police and not everyone can be district directors. There is a certain rank ," she said.
Lala emphasized that the focus should be on meritocracy and real evaluation of police officers. Lala said that some district leaders should not continue in office, especially in problematic districts.
" The scandal with ranks is probably one of the biggest scandals that have occurred in the State Police over the years, because there are officials who deserved the rank and never received it ," the journalist declared.
According to the journalist, Hita must purge the police from the groups that have "occupied" it, while adding that the problem is also that many of the most capable police officers have been left outside the operational structures and transferred to the Police Academy.
" I have been a strong voice against Ilir Proda and I believe that time has proven me right. Skënder Hitaj certainly did not have enough time to dismantle all those groups that were within the State Police and that had occupied the State Police. I think he should do it with an iron fist and get the State Police back on track and be at the service of the citizens. But of course, some directors cannot stay in the districts where they are, and especially in problematic districts.
There are police officers within the State Police and Mr. Hitaj, this is a challenge that I am publicly throwing at him—he must be very careful when selecting new district police directors.
Do you know what happens, Nisida? The best officers of the State Police, if I may say so, were interned and sent to the Police Academy. The State Police does not have the luxury of having a group of good officers stay there, if we can say it in football terms, caliber players but on the bench.
"So, it means that Mr. Hitaj must be very attentive and must be a clear and decisive person, and stay away from clans, personal or clientelistic interests, and choose a team that, more than serving a certain thing, serves Albanian public opinion ," she said when invited to the show "This Week" with Nisida Tufa.
