The tightening of the security measure against former Prime Minister Sali Berisha by SPAK has raised questions about the direction of the main opposition party in Albania.
Analyst Neritan Sejamini stated that you can lead the party even from exile, but if Berisha is left under house arrest, the DP will shrink around its leader, not fighting for the 2025 elections.
" If we talk about bureaucratic procedure, you can lead the party wherever you are, even from exile if you want. But if we talk about what the DP needs, for a new vision, to regenerate, energy, to create a strategy towards the elections, this has not been done even now and it will be much more difficult to do if Berisha will be under house arrest.
At the moment when the DP identifies 100 percent with Mr. Berisha and there is nothing out of this thing, this event is problematic for the DP, because it will shrink around its leader, while there are two things certain: in April-May 2025 are the general elections which the DP will be forced to enter. In this kind of sense, it is harmful, because the party will look at nothing else but to fight for its leader and not look beyond that. There are no other figures there who have public weight, vision, charisma.
Some figures there, even though they have been there for a long time, fade naturally. The Doctor himself e.g. you suffer the fading that time gives, your words are no longer fresh, your figure is no longer what inspires you ", Sejamini said on "MCN TV".
