SPAK Prosecutor, Vladimir Mara, provided details on the operation conducted by SPAK and the Bari Prosecutor's Office.
The Prosecutor of the Special Structure Against Corruption and Organized Crime (SPAK), Vladimir Mara, has provided details on the international operation that led to numerous seizures of narcotics in Italy and the identification of a large criminal network from Albania.
In his statement, Mara announced that this investigation is the result of close cooperation with the Italian authorities, which have managed data obtained from the encrypted communication platform Sky ECC.
"I will try to briefly provide some more details regarding this investigation. As previously reported, it was a joint investigation between the Italian prosecution and SPAK. Parallel investigations were conducted in Italy and Albania and daily data was exchanged, where several quantities of drugs were seized in the Italian state. Data from SKY ECC were received from the anti-mafia and the Bari prosecution, which presented a clear picture of this criminal group and we managed to build the scope of this criminal activity that began in Puglia, in several EU countries, Belgium, the Netherlands and in South America.
The new thing in this investigation is that, in addition to the data from SKY ECC, data from the platforms were also used. 30 episodes of trafficking in Italy and 10 episodes in Albania were seized. The entire cycle from the countries of origin was documented and, thanks to the analysis of the DIA directorate, it was possible to conclude that all this criminal activity was worth approximately 5 million euros. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Italian authorities and, thanks to this cooperation, we had this result. , said prosecutor Mara.
Prosecutor Mara also revealed that a total of 52 arrest warrants have been issued in Albania and Italy, of which only 40 have been executed. Mara further revealed that several businesses in Durres and a television station in Vlora have been seized, which are suspected of being financed or built with drug money.
He also said that in addition to members of the criminal group, arrest warrants have also been issued for state officials and a lawyer.
"We have executed 52 arrest warrants and investigated 42 security measures and identified corrupt acts in Albanian institutions, for state officials and for a lawyer. Today, the court decisions have been executed. Three restaurants in Durrës, a bar-cafe, 6 commercial companies and a television in the city of Vlora have been seized. During this investigation, 3 million euros in cash were previously seized, which have also been subjected to this criminal investigation," the prosecutor declared.
