Mevlan Shanaj, one of Ismail Kadare's close friends, has spoken about his departure at the age of 88.
He says that his death is a national pain, as he adds that he made this nation smarter.
" It is a national pain! After the flight of Skenderbeu, this is the biggest flight for Albanians. Today the genius man is gone, 46 nations needed the mind of this man.
In my impressions of friendship over the years... the only person I feared was him, because of his incredible intellect. He is the man who emancipated Albania, who made us brave, he was the bravest of all, he fought the dictatorship and gave us a model man. Ismail has made us all wise!" he said.
In the meantime, regarding the attacks that have been made on him, he said: On the eve of the Nobel Prize, they did a campaign to denigrate, and once you said to him, 'These attacks seem to have made you stronger', and there he told me that 'Great literature goes through hell '", said Shanaj.
