Fredi Blair has become the main reason for the "enmity" between Prime Minister Edi Rama and his Greek counterpart Kyriakos Mitsotakis...

The spokesman of the Greek government, Pavlos Marinakis, has stated that the missing invitation to Prime Minister Edi Rama at the dinner called by Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis was a consequence of the positions on the case of Fredi Beleri.

He emphasized that Albania must respect the basic rules of the rule of law and that Greece will not take any steps behind.

"The Greek government, with a series of interventions by the Prime Minister and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, is coordinated with the rule of law, not only with Fredi Beleri, a legally elected mayor, who must be sworn in. "Albania must respect the basic rules of the rule of law and we will not take a single step backwards for this," he said.

We remind you that the leaders of the Western Balkans and the EU member states of the region will be welcomed on the evening of Monday, August 21, at 20.15 by Kyriakos Mitsotakis at Megaro Maximos for an informal dinner on enlargement and the European future of the region, on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the EU-Western Balkans Summit and the "Declaration of Thessaloniki".

The Prime Minister's specific initiative marks the leading role played by Greece as a pillar of stability, peace and energy security in the Balkans and Southeast Europe and its return to the Balkans from 2019.

In fact, the president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen and the president of the European Council, Charles Michel, have responded to the Prime Minister's invitation and will attend the dinner. Their participation in the dinner is both meaningful and symbolic. Symbolic, because on June 21 it was 20 years since the "Thessalonica Declaration" of the EU-Western Balkans Summit that took place during the Greek Presidency of the EU Council and that paved the way for the inclusion of several countries of the region in the Union.

It is noted that Kyriakos Mitsotakis has repeatedly reaffirmed Greece's firm support for the European perspective of the region, which becomes even more important in the new environment of challenges created by the Russian occupation of Ukraine. The completion of 20 years since the Thessaloniki Summit and the Prime Minister's invitation to the leaders of the region is an opportunity to underline that Greece, which has strengthened its geopolitical and energy footprint in the region over the past four years, stands by the Western Balkans as member of the European family, but also as the largest economy in the region and the desire for their European integration, for which there are conditions.

In Athens, specifically at the "Great Britain" hotel, the president of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, of Montenegro, Jakov Milatovic, the prime minister of North Macedonia, Dimitar Kovacevski, of Kosovo, Albin Kurti will meet to participate in the dinner informal.

Albania, invited at the presidential level, will not be represented, while the leader of Slovenia has not been able to respond positively. The leaders of the countries of the region that are members of the EU, and more specifically the Prime Minister of Bulgaria Nikolai Denkov, Croatia's Andrej Plenkovic and Romania's Ion-Marcel Ciolakou, will take part in the discussion.
