The Special Court against Corruption and Organized Crime has today convicted former guard Zef Mali and citizen Jemine Çoku for exercising illegal influence over public officials.
According to the decision of the Criminal Court of Kosovo, Zef Mali was found guilty of the criminal offense of "Exercising unlawful influence over persons exercising public functions", committed in collaboration.
The court sentenced him to 2 years and 6 months in prison, but due to the summary trial, the final sentence was reduced to 1 year and 8 months in prison. He was also banned from holding public office for a period of 5 years.
Meanwhile, Jemine Çoku was sentenced to 1 year in prison. After the application of the summary trial, her sentence was reduced to 8 months in prison, while the court decided to exempt her from serving the sentence.
According to the investigations of the Special Prosecution Office, former guard Zef Mali, in collaboration with Kreshnik Domi, demanded and received the sum of 20 thousand euros from Jemine Çoku.
SPAK claims that they had promised Çoku that they would influence officials at the Ministry of Justice to expedite the procedures for the transfer to Albania of her brother, Kujtim Çeliku, who was convicted in Turkey.
At the time the alleged actions were committed, Zef Mali held the position of Force Management Staff Officer in the Republic Guard.
According to the investigative file, the defendants had constant contact with Jemine Çoku and her family during the procedures for the transfer of the convict from Turkey to Albania.
