
The Agency for Agricultural and Rural Development has asked the Coast to Coast company, owned by the Gjikuria family, to return the money received as a grant from EU funds because it has not respected the terms of the contract. But the company has refused to return the money and AZHBR has already sent the case to court.
In a response to the Amfora.al portal, AZHBR says that there are several companies or individuals who have been asked to return money for non-compliance with the terms of the contract.
"Within the IPARD II Program so far, AZHBR has opened 8 court proceedings for the return of the amount benefited from the entities that received an advance payment for the realization of the investment, but that did not realize it within the terms defined in the contract or abused according to audit suggestions," says the official response that AZHBR returned to the Amfora portal.
According to official documents, Coast to Coast received a 204,000 euro grant for the restoration of 5 apartments in the village of Dhërmi and their conversion into hostels with 24 beds. AZHBR does not specify what conditions the company violated, but officially confirmed that it has requested the return of the money.
Founded in 2009 by Florenc Gjikuria and Jorgji Ruci, Coast to Coast has changed partners several times since then. Even at one point, its shareholder was Besnik Dervishi, former senior official of the majority, currently in the position of Commissioner for the Right to Information.
Currently, the company is 100 percent owned by Xheni Gjikuria and its object of activity is "Development of various activities in the field of tourism, bar-restaurant, hotel, leasing and other transactions on real estate, etc. .”
In 2019, the company launched an investment with a total value of about 320 thousand euros at the then exchange rate. Of these, AZHBR and the state financed 230,000 euros with a free grant.
The object of the investment as described in the documents of AZHBR is "investments for reconstruction and furnishing in the field of rural tourism." The photo shows the realized investment.
In the object of activity, which the Coast to Coast company has filed with the National Business Center, none of the words farm, agriculture, greenhouse or livestock are found.
