From escaping in 1991 and the difficulties as an immigrant, to life as an artist

In a candid account for "Urban Future Talk", the Albanian ambassador to Vienna recounts his escape from communist Albania, life as an immigrant and his ascent to the art of diplomacy.

In the latest episode of “Urban Future Talk,” Austrian journalist Bernhard Müller has as guest Prof. Fate Velaj, the Albanian ambassador to Austria. But the diplomatic title is only the tip of an extraordinary story.

In an open and heartfelt narrative, Fate Velaj tells for the first time to the Austrian public his escape from Albania in 1991, the difficult years as an immigrant where he worked as a dishwasher and factory worker, as well as his path towards art, literature and then diplomatic representation.

The conversation is a journey through identity, culture, and new beginnings. In addition to personal experiences, Velaj and Müller also discuss Albania's dramatic transformation after the fall of the dictatorship, rapid urbanization, and return to agriculture, as well as the role of art, language, and education in building modern Albanian society.

Special attention is paid to the new ties between Albania and Austria – not only in cultural and economic terms, but above all on a human level.

" It's a conversation about gratitude, about visions and the power of meeting people ," Müller emphasizes at the beginning of the interview.
