Greek authorities are investigating the origin of the explosive-filled vehicle, with the focus on the ports of Vlora and Misrata in Libya...

Greek STAR television has raised serious questions about the origin of the Ukrainian-type naval drone that was discovered near Lefkada, Greece, filled with explosives and capable of causing major damage to naval targets.

According to journalist Giannis Sotiropoulos' reporting for STAR , Greek security authorities are examining different scenarios on how the unmanned naval vehicle ended up in the area, while suspicions are focused on two ports: that of Vlora in Albania and the port of Misrata in western Libya.

Satellite images provided by Greek television show the movement of a Russian convoy in the Mediterranean over the past few days. The images record the positions of the ships both south of Crete and near Malta.

According to international media and security analysts, the drone's possible target may have been these Russian ships, while the vehicle was accidentally discovered by fishermen in Lefkada.

These are three Russian tankers accompanied by the frigate "Kasatonov", which were destined for the Syrian port of Tartus.

Unmanned naval vehicle systems expert Vangelis Xanthakis told STAR that it is a "remotely controlled surface torpedo."

" These vessels move in international waters and patrol areas where Russian ships are expected to pass, in order to then strike them ," he said.

According to STAR, the naval drone was carrying about 100 kilograms of explosives, an amount that according to specialists could “split a large ship in half.” The vehicle has been identified as a Ukrainian military model “MAGURA V5.”

The report states that the port of Vlora in Albania and that of Misrata in Libya have already been put “under the microscope” by Greek authorities. Regarding Misrata, the Greek television also cites previous reports according to which Ukraine maintains a military presence in the area, with more than 200 officers and drone specialists.

Meanwhile, preliminary investigations are ongoing by the Greek Coast Guard and the local prosecutor's office to clarify the circumstances surrounding the discovery of the drone. A few days ago, Greek media raised suspicions that the drone may have been launched from the Pashalimani base.
