The circle narrows for Olta Xhaçka, the Supreme Court hears the charges
Olta Xhaçka in SPAK

The Supreme Court has upheld the sequestration of the Port of Saranda....

The Supreme Court has read the SPAK file on the affair with the port of Saranda. Minister Olta Xhaçka has climbed the steps of the prosecutor's office several times, after being sued for privatizing the port in violation of the law.

As part of the investigations, SPAK seized the property, but it was appealed by the companies that received the concession. The case went to the Supreme Court and today the latter decided to uphold the decision of the Special Court against Crime and Corruption on February 24, 2023, for the seizure of the "Limion Auxiliary Base, Saranda".

But this means that the court has legislated SPAK's accusations and the circle towards Olta Xhaçka has started to narrow.

Until 2020, the naval base was the property of the Albanian army. But with a VKM of the same year, the government leased it. The former deputy commander of the Naval Force, Artur Meçollari filed a lawsuit in SPAK with the argument that the free disposal of this property by private entities violates the readiness and operationality of the Naval Force, which operationality must continue to be carried out by the competent body which is the Naval Force Command , without the intervention of private entities. He sued Olta Xhaçka and President Begaj, at that time the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces.

In two lawsuits filed by Meçollari, it is said that officials and former high-ranking officials of the Ministry of Defense and the army have misused their duties, including the former Minister of Defense, Olta Xhaçka and the new president, Bajram Begaj, after they allowed interference in some special properties for which the approval of the President must be obtained first.

Meçollari accuses them of abusing their duty in relation to two private activities allowed in the properties in the Deployment and Deployment Plan, as the areas where the naval forces are deployed are known. (These properties are part of the structure and operational requirements of the Navy). Any changes to these properties are made at the proposal of the Minister of Defense and approved by the President. Mr. Meçollari, in his two reports, says that the changes in the plan were made without obtaining the approval of the President of that time. / Pamphlet
