The "Diambe" supermarket chain in the city of Durrës has sold chocolates with insects to citizens.
Talarki Money Euro 100g chocolate, which looks like European coins, is not of the same quality, and this is evident from the insects inside it.
The AKU, after carrying out an inspection at the "Diambe" supermarket warehouse in Katund i Ri, Durrës, in addition to the blockage, has sent four samples of this chocolate for laboratory analysis at ISUV, to learn more about its microbiological load.
Polikesen Drazho of the AKU stated that: "In this case, a quantity of chocolate was found that was reported for the presence of worms, this is a physical indicator. The imported quantity is 2208 pieces of product, imported from Poland. Currently, the AKU, where the verification was carried out, also carried out traceability and went to other markets of the same chain; 94 pieces of the product were blocked."
It is learned that the chocolate originates from Poland and its importer is the Diambe supermarket itself, which imported 2,208 pieces of chocolate into Albania in 2024. Poor storage conditions have caused harmful insects to grow inside this chocolate.
"One of the main reasons is the storage conditions, because chocolate as a product has a high sugar content and these are more likely to develop if kept in a humid environment or in poor hygienic-sanitary conditions," says Polikesen Drazho of the AKU.
The National Food Agency has ordered the supermarket chain to remove all Talarki Money chocolates from its shelves. Food inspectors have seized a total of 98 packages of the product.
"Referring to the task left in the inspection carried out on 04-11-2025 for the withdrawal of the chocolate product TALARKI MONEY 100 GR with an expiration date of September 2026, it results that the Food Business Operator is in the process of returning the product to the warehouse. All entities where the product was distributed have been notified to remove the product," said the AKU.
Talarki chocolate was not sold only in Durrës, but in the entire Diambe supermarket chain in Albania. Administrative measures have also been taken against this business with a fine of 300 thousand new lek./ TCH
