After more than 2 years of delay, the Special Court has passed the "Buka" case, in which former Deputy Prime Minister Arben Ahmetaj is accused, for trial.

The latter is accused by SPAK of having abused his position by favoring the privatization by businessman Lirim Fezollari of the "Buka sha" company, where the 'Emerald' complex is now located on "5 Maji" street in Tirana, in the "Medrese" area.

At the end of 2023, SPAK closed the investigation and sent the file to the court, but the latter turned it back several times. SPAK was forced to complete the investigation and the court today decided to proceed to trial on the merits.

Ahmetaj is accused of causing 7 billion lek in damages to the Myderizi family, who won the lawsuits. According to the accusation, Ahmetaj, in his capacity as former Minister of Finance, decided to privatize and a complex of buildings was built on the property of the Myderizi family. But the former minister himself has denied the accusations.

" How is it possible that the accusations against me are flowing in the media and various portals before the legal path is followed or at least the same path that SPAK has followed for other files so far? Notification of lawyers on the accusations. As in the case of the Incinerators file (only for the person Arben Ahmetaj) the files are released to the media before there are official announcements. Is this a continuation of the "Black Sheep" strategy by the spin doctor/s? Is this a strategy for a popular trial in the media before the presumed innocent goes "guilty" in court? This was Vyshinsky's style, but 90 years ago and under a dictatorship ," he said some time ago.

Once again, he rejected accusations that the privatization of the former factory has caused damage to the state budget, while writing that SPAK is overlooking the fact that state shares, according to him, have been protected and not the opposite.

" How is it possible that SPAK overlooks the fact that state shares are protected and not the opposite? How is it possible that SPAK ignores or overlooks the role of the Minister of Economy as a political person? How is it possible that SPAK overlooks or ignores the legal fact that the Minister of Economy does not evaluate or re-evaluate assets and shares, but this part of the procedure is done by independent and certified appraisers who are on the official list of the institution ," Ahmetaj wrote.
