The situation created by the fire that has engulfed the area near the Shkumbin River, near the Elbasan Landfill and Incinerator, has worsened in recent hours. The flames continue to be active, increasing the risk of their spread towards the waste disposal field.
Although fire crews have been on the scene for hours, the fire is still not under control. According to information from the scene, the flames have moved significantly closer to the waste area, making the situation particularly worrying.
Emergency structures are focusing efforts on isolating active fires and creating protective corridors to prevent the fire from spreading to the landfill.
In support of the operation, the hydrant systems of the Elbasan Landfill have also been activated, which are being used to supply water to firefighting vehicles and to combat the flames.
Meanwhile, high temperatures and weather conditions in the area are making the work of operational forces, who continue to monitor the situation on the ground, more difficult.
The main priority remains protecting the waste field and preventing an incident with wider consequences for the environment and surrounding areas.
Authorities have called on citizens to avoid traffic near the area affected by the fire until the active fires are completely neutralized.
