A quantity of fruits that have resulted in high pesticide content have been blocked by the National Food Authority (AKU). It is learned that the two fruits in which the irregularity was found are peaches and French red grapes.

Both products have been classified as a risk to human health and have been immediately reported to the European food safety system RASFF.

During official controls, peaches imported from Greece were found to contain residues of the pesticide Phosmet at levels exceeding the permitted limits. The food business operator has been ordered to notify all entities to which the product was distributed and to organize its return if it is still in stock.

In another case, French red grapes imported from Greece were analyzed and found to contain the pesticide Propamocarb above the permitted levels. This product was found by inspectors in a “Spar” supermarket in Lezha, in a quantity of approximately 800 kg.

The NFA has intervened by blocking the remaining quantity on the market and initiating procedures for its destruction. In this case, too, the relevant notification has been made in the RASFF system.
