Albanian politics wishes Catholic and Orthodox believers: Happy Easter!

Albanian politics has congratulated Christian and Orthodox believers who are celebrating Easter today.

Prime Minister Edi Rama shared a photo of a child holding a candle on social media, writing: " For many years Easter."

A day earlier, President Bajram Begaj also sent a congratulatory message.

"Happy Easter to all Albanian Christian believers! This celebration of hope and resurrection is proof that life and goodness triumph over death and evil, that light defeats darkness, that virtues and values defeat evil and anti-values.  May the light and goodness of this holiday illuminate the life of every Albanian Orthodox, Catholic and Evangelical Christian believer, and bring peace and blessings to your families!

"Celebrate this Easter full of love, care and attention to those you love and who are in need!  Enjoy this basket prepared with much love by some ladies of the Orthodox faith, in respect of our tradition of celebration," Begaj wrote in his greeting.

The leader of the Democratic Party of Albania, Sali Berisha, has also congratulated Christian believers on the holiday of Easter. In a message on social networks, Berisha writes, among other things, that Easter is a day of unquenchable hope, of human inspiration from divine and human values and a better future.

"Happy Easter! Dear friends, tonight Albanian Christian believers and those around the world celebrate Easter, the resurrection of Christ the King.  Easter, the day of God's resurrection, is for every person, for all believers, a day of immortality, of great faith in God, in his goodness and omnipotence. Easter in particular is a day of unquenchable hope, of human inspiration from divine and human values and in a better future.

This time, it has found Albania, Albanian Christian believers and their friends of other faiths before a historic election on May 11.  Wishing all Christian believers this holy day, I invite you, dear friends, to pray to God to bless the Albanians in Albania, the diaspora and wherever they are and their vote for separation from the power of evil that is emptying Albania, and the awakening of hope and a future for Albanians. I sincerely wish that we celebrate the next Easter better! Happy! ", writes Berisha.

PL leader Ilir Meta also congratulated from prison, saying that Easter is not just a holiday, but evidence of the triumph of life over death, of light over darkness, and of good over evil.

“CHRIST IS RISEN! TRULY IS RISEN! Happy Easter to all Orthodox, Catholic, Evangelical Christian believers and to the entire Albanian people!  From the bottom of my heart I wish for as much prosperity, peace, love, prosperity and happiness in every Albanian family!  The Bible teaches us that: “Just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, so we too should walk in newness of life.”

Therefore, Easter is not just a holiday. But the testimony of the triumph of life over death, of light over darkness, of good over evil.  I wish that this Easter will bring to all a true awakening of hope in our hearts for a better tomorrow, which with faith in God will definitely come! Better weather! HAPPY EASTER", writes Meta.

A message also came from the leader of the Euro-Atlantic Coalition, Lulzim Basha, who writes that the Easter holiday is a call for love, solidarity and commitment to each other.

"Dear Christian brothers and sisters, on this holy celebration of the Resurrection of Christ, my family and I wish you from the bottom of our hearts: Happy Easter! This blessed holiday reminds us that after every sacrifice comes light, and after every difficulty, hope arises. Easter is a call for love, solidarity, and commitment to each other.

Let us be inspired by the power of faith and have hope that change is possible – for ourselves, for each other and for our country. May the light of hope and courage ignite in the hearts and minds of every Albanian family the belief that better days await us. May  God bless you and your families! May God bless Albania and Albanians wherever they are! ” writes Basha.

The head of the "Together Movement", Arlind Qori, also congratulated Catholic believers on the occasion of Easter.

"Happy Easter, the triumph of youth, hope and justice," Qori wrote in a Facebook post.

This year, Catholic and Orthodox believers celebrate Easter on the same day. Easter is considered the most important holiday in the Christian calendar, a symbol of victory over death, rebirth and hope. However, it is not always celebrated on the same date by all Christians. The reason lies in the different calendars used by the Catholic and Orthodox Churches.

Catholics follow the Gregorian calendar, established in 1582 by Pope Gregory XIII to correct the inaccuracies of the Julian calendar. The Orthodox Church continues to use the Julian calendar, which is 13 days behind the Gregorian calendar.

Although both traditions rely on the same principle for calculating the date of Easter, the Sunday after the full moon that follows the vernal equinox, differences in calendars and in the way the ecclesiastical moon is determined mean that the dates do not match. In 2025, however, the astronomical and calendar alignment has occurred naturally: the vernal equinox falls on March 20, the full moon after it on April 13, and the following Sunday is April 20 – a date that coincides in both systems of calculation.
