The Democratic Union of the Greek National Minority, OMONIA has reacted in a press release regarding the arrest of the acting mayor of Himara, Jorgo Goro. He was arrested on the evening of March 23, while he is accused by SPAK of abuse of office in two cases.
OMONIA has raised several questions in the statement, such as why Rama has appointed Vangjel Tavon Prefect of Vlora, hinting that he can be appointed as mayor, or why SPAK waited so long for Goro's arrest and has not yet taken Artan Gaçi into custody?
OMONIA closes the statement by saying that these are all plans of Prime Minister Edi Rama, since they are not allowing Fredi Beleri to take the oath and that the leadership of Himara Municipality should be taken by one of the municipal councilors of the winning coalition of the local elections of May 2023 .

Everything has its own explanation!
Rama's idea to appoint the former socialist deputy originally from Dropulli, Vangjel Tavon, as the mayor of Himara Municipality, was heard for the first time in Christmas 2023. Vangjel Tavo, to his credit, denied this in that time. However, it turns out that nothing is accidental in Albania. In the last 3 weeks, the following has happened:
March 5, 2024: The elected mayor of Himara, Fredi Beleri, was convicted in the first instance in a trial without evidence.
March 14, 2024: The prefect of Vlora was suddenly replaced by Vangjel Tavo.
March 21, 2024: The Constitutional Court legalized Beler's detention.
March 23, 2024: Rama's chosen one and the loser of the local elections, Gjergji Goro, who continued to lead Himara for 10 months after his defeat, is arrested.
- Why did Rama appoint Tavon Prefect nine days before Goro was arrested? Was it to hand over the Himara municipality administration to him after Goro's detention? Perhaps to designate him as a candidate for the expected local elections after the final sentence of mayor Beleri?
- Why did the SPAK prosecution wait so many months to arrest Goro? Maybe he waited until the trial at the Constitutional Court was over?
- Why didn't the SPAK prosecution also arrest Artan Gaçi, the husband of former Foreign Minister Olta Xhaçka, in whose favor the forgery for which Goro is accused was committed?
- Why didn't the SPAK prosecution also arrest those who gave Artan Gaçi, the husband of former Foreign Minister Xhaçka, the status of a strategic investor for an asset acquired through forgery?
After these developments, do you still believe in the independence of SPAK and justice in general?
From the moment Mr. Rama has finally decided to violate the laws and the Constitution of the country by not allowing the elected mayor to take the oath, we would like to remind him that on December 22, 2023, he declared that he would follow the "best European practices" for the municipality of Himara. This means only one thing: Whoever takes the temporary leadership of the Himare municipality until the release and swearing in of Fredi Beler, must be one of the municipal councilors of the winning coalition in the local elections of May 2023. It cannot be someone without connections with the vote of the people of Himara and even more so it cannot be from another area outside the municipality of Himara. We Himariots want as mayor the man we voted for and not the one Rama likes.
