Analyst Preç Zogaj said that the EC's progress report for Albania is realistic. Zogaj emphasized that corruption has been and remains a scourge of Albanian society.
In a Skype interview in the Opinion section of News 24, he said that SPAK is fighting corruption and that he believes that he will investigate every individual, regardless of who he is.
According to Zogaj, the integration of the country into the EU is determined by the strengthening of justice, as he added that the SPAK strike bar will be raised higher.
"I am optimistic about Albania's European future. This report comes after the opening of group-chapters for our country. The road to EU integration is long. Corruption is a fundamental problem in Albania. I agree with this concern of the report. There are a number of issues that need to be resolved. The role of SPAK was appreciated, as it has conducted investigations against all officials at all levels. SPAK has become an institution of hope for Albanians in the fight against corruption. However, the EC report as a whole was realistic for Albania. SPAK is raising the bar in the fight against corruption, but more is expected from this institution. SPAK is required to arrest any person who has committed corruption or is part of organized crime, regardless of who the individual is. Rama says that in 2030 we will be in the EU. The capture of this date requires the strengthening of justice.
For EU membership, work is required in every area of life. I call on the opposition to believe in SPAK, because this institution is attacking impunity. I don't think SPAK decides in relation to politics. SPAK conducts investigations and accusations, justice is administered by the court. SPAK cannot be stopped from investigating people just because they are party leaders. SPAK should be encouraged not to stop. I don't see two standards from the Special Structure. For SPAK's investigations, the storm will rise, MPs and senior officials of the opposition and the ruling party are calling every day" , said Zogaj.
