The capital has entered the 16th day of mass protests, as citizens continue to demand the immediate resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama.
Regarding the latest political and social developments in the country, analyst Fatos Lubonja commented on the current situation in the country.
According to Lubonja, interpreting the protest as a reaction limited only to the Zvërnec issue is wrong and does not reflect the essence of civic dissatisfaction.
"If I were to make a comparison, it would be this. Someone says that Zvërnec was the cause of the protest, but it has been 35 years that they have accumulated, a water of anger, which accumulates continuously and makes a large body of water. Imagine a large reservoir of anger and then there is a moment where the dam of power suffers a crack and bursts. This happens. Whoever reads this as the prime minister wants to tell us that it is only a thing for environmentalists, is mistaken," he said for "News 24".
The analyst argued that the current protests are the product of a deep dissatisfaction built over decades, starting with the post-1990s transition and continuing with subsequent political and economic developments.
"The essence of the protest is that we had a political class that started post-communist Albania with fraudulent pyramids that robbed people. This system of the Albanian that robs the Albanian. Then these other pyramids with oligarchs began that destroyed Tirana, those public spaces of the people ended too. Politics thought that the powerful were enough and ruled the rest. During the time of Edi Rama, in the last 20 years, organized crime money was also introduced," Lubonja declared.
According to him, the protests cannot be reduced to a single cause, but should be seen as an expression of broader dissatisfaction with the way of governance and political developments in recent years.
