"We have no opposition. The real opposition is us!"
This was one of the strongest calls articulated from the podium of the protest taking place in front of the Prime Minister's Office, where for the 17th day in a row, citizens from different areas of the country have gathered to oppose the government and the political class.
Amidst banners, calls for the resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama, and criticism of the traditional opposition, organizers declared that citizens no longer feel represented by political parties and that the protest is taking on the role of the real opposition in the country.
" We have no opposition. The real opposition is us ," he said from the podium, amid applause from the protesters.
The movement, which began as opposition to the project in Zvërnec, has transformed in recent weeks into a broader revolt against the government, but also against what protesters consider to be the failure of the entire political class.
Today's rally also included chants that have now become symbols of protest, such as "Rama resigns", "Your end has come", or "Rama in prison, Berisha in prison".
The organizers emphasized that new citizens are joining the protest every day, while support is also coming from the Albanian diaspora in various countries in Europe and beyond.
After more than two weeks of daily rallies, protesters insist that the movement will not stop and that their goal remains to increase citizen pressure on the government and the political elite, which, according to them, has lost touch with the real problems of the people.
