Scandal with toxic waste, environmentalists: Amount and destination unknown, where does Kurum ash go?

For years, the dust released from Kurum's chimneys has poisoned the city of Elbasan.

Environmentalists have repeatedly raised the alarm about the installation of filters as the dust released into the air had dangerous residues.

Environmentalist Ahmet Mehmeti says "the installation of filters means that those dangerous parts that were thrown into the air are caught, treated, packaged and taken somewhere".

The installation of filters, which seemed to save the city of Elbasan from cancerous waste, simply shifted the problem. These wastes are now captured by filters and packaged. Their quantity and destination for several years remains unknown.

"These residues that are caught by the filters are harmful, many of them are carcinogenic. We don't know that. Where is their final destination?" Mehmeti told "TCH".

Kurum continues to be silent about the export of hazardous waste, a scandal which has reached international proportions, and the responsible institution, the Regional Environment Agency, is also silent.
