Although bus ticket prices for intercity lines are determined by the decision of the Council of Ministers and had remained unchanged since 2007, operators in recent years have applied more expensive prices than the official rates.
The government has already changed the official bus ticket prices for intercity lines, increasing them up to 40% more compared to the rates set in the 2007 decision.
In the decision published in the Official Gazette, the new prices for bus tickets on intercity lines start from 50 Lek for a distance of 10 km to 1,450 Lek for a distance of 330 km. Compared to the fares set on the basis of the 2007 decision, bus ticket prices from a distance of 10 km to 300 km increased from 43 to 50%.
But the Association of Intercity Transport clarifies that bus passengers are not affected by price changes. The president of the Dashnor Memaj Association asserted that we are not dealing with price increases, but formalization of the market, since operators have long been operating with the prices determined in the new decision.
"We are not dealing with an increase in fees, even for some itineraries the ticket prices are lower. The prices in the new VKM are the formalization of the current rates applied by intercity line operators. So we are dealing with the formalization of the market and the implementation of fiscalization equipment that will systematize the market", he said.
The previous tariffs for intercity road transport of passengers by bus were determined based on VKM no. 66 dated 7.2.2007, for some changes in passenger transport tariffs.
Now the rates for intercity road transport of bus passengers are according to the new decision. For its implementation, the General Directorate of Road Transport Services, the General Directorate of Taxes, as well as the entities licensed to operate on the regular intercity road transport lines of bus passengers are charged with the implementation of this decision.
