Concerns raised about the abuse of social networks mainly with minors on TikTok in recent weeks have become alarming in Albania.

In this regard, the Deputy Minister of the Interior, Besfort Lamallari, has given some instructions on how an individual should act if he is being stalked on social networks and showed the measures taken by the police in these cases.

"The system should offer the possibility to report directly. There will be a dedicated group to moderate content in the Albanian language, there will be the use of automatic mechanisms to prevent derogatory content. Cooperation with third parties, organizations for the protection of minors. From next week, the implementation of the measures will begin, which means that the issues are reported from Albania, such as those that are channeled to this organization that cooperates with the police, such as those directly from the state police, for serious messages, profiles will be closed for a period of 24 hours, but even a maximum term of 72 hours, but also to the police by filing a report. We have a reaction and I believe that with what was agreed at the meeting, the addition of parental control. If we have rats that are using it for criminal purposes and we need more information, the organization takes it as a notification, but the police say that we are investigating and investigating", he said, as he called on everyone to report any form of abuse.

Cybercrime is worrying and, according to Lamallari, this is also shown by the growing numbers. According to him, only in 2023 there was an increase of 40% from the previous year.

"Online abuse is worrying, special sectors are involved for the investigation of pornography with minors. We have an increase in criminal offenses registered by the police, many of them come from citizen reports. Only in 2023, an increase of 40% from the previous year, 765 criminal offenses registered last year. 70% of them are related to the abuse and illegal use of social networks. We have seen cases where it turns into trauma for minors. Although the perpetrators are held accountable, we are thinking of a broader approach where the victims are at the center. The highest number of users are young and underage and are more vulnerable, it takes more. The most reported cases are minors and women", he told A2 CNN.

Among the most disturbing online platforms, he mentioned Tik Tok, where even control is more difficult, and appealed for parental control of posts.
