Starting at midnight today and for the next 3 days, Albania will be hit by heavy rain, with strong winds, but snowfall is also expected in some areas.
The north of the country is the territory most at risk from the bad weather that is expected to "invade" the country, but the alarm has also been raised in Fier and Vlora.
The regions that present a high risk of flooding due to the intensity of rainfall are the regions of Shkodër, Kukës, Vlorë and Gjirokastër, while intense rainfall occurs in Lezha and moderate to intense rainfall occurs in Dibër, Durrës and Tirana.
The Ministry of Defense and the National Civil Protection Agency have called on municipalities and local structures to show increased caution and take urgent measures.
To take measures to avoid floods, Defense Minister Pirro Vengu conducted an inspection at the Vau i Dejës hydroelectric power plant together with the Mayor of Shkodra, Benet Beci, and the Director of the National Civil Protection Agency, Haki Çako, from the Vau i Dejës hydroelectric power plant.
The bad weather is also expected to affect the Lezha Region. The structures are particularly monitoring the functioning of the hydroelectric dams, as well as the electricity supply to the population, while teams on the ground are ready to intervene if necessary.
The areas most at risk from flooding remain Zadrima and Bregu i Matës in the Municipality of Lezha, as well as Fushë-Kuqja in the Municipality of Kurbin.
Likewise, employees, specialists and engineers of the Irrigation and Drainage Directorate in the Fier Region have gone on alert following forecasts of rainfall in the coming days.
Three rivers flow through the Fier region, two of which are the Vjosa and the Semani, with significant flows during the winter. Meanwhile, the Shkumbini in the Lushnja region, despite its high flow, presents a lower risk of flooding.
Meanwhile, Vlora, both as a city and as a region, is one of the areas most at risk from very high intensity rainfall.
Therefore, the structures of this region have also been requested to show maximum commitment and readiness from all institutions, as the next 48 hours are very important for the situation that may arise.
