The preliminary hearing against former President Ilir Meta has been postponed.
It is learned that the reason was the absence of the lawyer of the leader of the PL, Kujtim Cakrani. Meanwhile, the next session will be held on November 27.
The previous session was also postponed due to the request of Meta's lawyer, Kujtim Cakrani, to exclude Judge Irena Gjoka from the case.
The lawyer, who left the session, said that the court must first rule on this request made earlier by them.
According to him, Judge Gjoka is in a conflict of interest as she is being investigated by SPAK for allegations previously raised by Sali Berisha that she concealed a conviction for forgery of documents in Greece. Meta's defense also requested that the file be returned to SPAK for investigation, arguing that the Special Prosecution Office violated procedure by sending new evidence related to LSI lobbying payments in the US, while it closed the investigations on July 28 and sent the file for trial.
Monika Kryemadhi also made such a request after leaving court, claiming that there is no new evidence coming from the US, but that it is simply about returning the response regarding the letter of request that was sent a year ago by SPAK.
The new evidence from the US was presented by SPAK in the previous session of the preliminary hearing. SPAK closed the investigations on July 28, while it passed the file for trial at the end of August, which included three investigations into a CEZ-DIA affair, LSI lobbying in the US, and the property investigation.
Meta and Kryemadhi are accused of passive corruption, money laundering and failure to declare assets. Pirro Xhixho is accused of passive corruption of high-ranking officials committed in collaboration, while Fatime Kryemadhi is accused of money laundering, together with Ema Çoku. Meta has been in prison since October 2024, while Kryemadhi is under obligation to appear.
