Albania's former ambassador to the UN and one of the former founders of the Democratic Party, Abdi Baleta, passed away today.
Abdi Baleta, born in the village of Gur i Bardh in Mati in 1941, studied international relations in Moscow and graduated in law from the University of Tirana in 1964.
Until 1983, Baleta served in the Albanian state diplomacy as an employee and director at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and ambassador and representative of Albania to the UN, in New York, USA. He served as the President of the District Court in Pogradec from 1983 to 1987 and as a lecturer of international law at the Faculty of Law from 1987 to 1995.
In the years 1991-1996 he was elected as a deputy of the Democratic Party in the Albanian Parliament. In 1994 Abdi Baleta left the Democratic Party and created another political force which was baptized "National Revival".
