The Supreme Court has rejected the Appeal for the former deputy director of the Brikena Qirjazi Oncology Hospital and the specialist Drilona Kishta. Accused of the mismanagement of the "Cobalt" source, they will continue to be investigated in a file with the doctors and the group accused of leaving tumor patients in the state without medicine and service and forcing them to go to private hospitals.
The Supreme Court decided not to consider the request of the Special Judge of Appeal, Florian Kalaja, to interpret whether the "Oncology" file should be investigated together with others.
In the session of September 17, judge Kalaja decided to partially change the security measures for the doctors accused in connection with the scandal at the Oncology Hospital. He decided to leave in force the "house arrest" security measure for doctor Edmond Gashi. As for the pharmacist Florjan Marku, where it is suspected that hospital medicines for tumors were sold, the measure changed from "house arrest" to "compulsion to appear before the judicial police". For the father of the doctor, Halil Gashi, administrator of the private clinic "Megis" where patients were addressed because they were allegedly left without treatment in the state, the GJKKO Appeal removed the measure of "obligation to appear".
Even for the former deputy director of hospitals Brikena Qiriazi, the Appeal removed the measure and drew the attention of SPAK and the Prosecutor's Office of Tirana that they have not conducted sufficient investigations to prove that the Cobalt source was mismanaged by the hospital, but the Supreme Court with the verdict the latter decided to investigate all of them in one file. The Oncologist has also launched a financial investigation against the doctors accused in the file.
