The Special Structure against Corruption and Organized Crime, SPAK, has published its report for 2025.
In the section that discusses the blocking of cryptocurrencies, it is stated that over 45 million euros in assets and cryptocurrencies have been blocked.
According to the report, it is stated that the Special Prosecution Office has undertaken during 2025, concrete measures to increase the active role of the prosecutor, improve the quality of investigations and strengthen criminal prosecution for the most disruptive criminal offenses for public order and security.
Regarding money laundering, during 2025, the total value of assets seized and confiscated by SPAK was around 45.4 million euros, including cryptocurrencies. Financial investigations have significantly improved the identification of money laundering networks and their international connections.
In terms of the increase in investigations initiated primarily, out of 294 new criminal proceedings registered for 2025, 109 proceedings are registered primarily. This data represents about 37% of the total new proceedings for 2025. This value for 2024 was 19.8% (65 investigations initiated primarily in 328 new criminal proceedings registered for 2025). This indicator reflects an increased commitment to not be limited to referrals from other institutions, but to exercise a proactive role in identifying and prosecuting criminal offenses.
Regarding the fight against corruption, especially at high levels, during 2025, SPAK investigated 27 criminal proceedings (carried over and newly registered proceedings) with 30 persons under investigation/defendants, who are high-level officials and former officials. The investigations in these cases were conducted following professional standards and aiming to send cases to trial based on complete and solid evidence.
Regarding financial investigations, the Special Prosecution Office has consolidated the practice of conducting financial investigations alongside criminal investigations. During 2025, 13 property proceedings were registered with the Special Prosecution Office and 18 property referrals were handled, against entities falling within the scope of application of Law No. 10192, dated 3.12.2009, on preventive measures against property.
