SPAK has submitted its 2024 annual report to the Parliament, highlighting not only the activity of the Special Prosecution Office in the fight against organized crime and corruption, but also a series of problems in relation to cooperation between institutions.
In the report, the Special Prosecution Office emphasizes that it has continued inter-institutional cooperation with the General Prosecutor's Office, prosecutors' offices of general jurisdiction, judicial police, state police and other law enforcement agencies.
According to them, this cooperation has been continuous and without obstacles, in order to implement the law on the fight against terrorism and organized crime, and to prevent and punish the perpetrators of such criminal acts.
SPAK shows that during 2024, the number of investigations initiated by the Special Prosecution Office due to reports from public institutions has increased by around 66.6% compared to the previous year (from 12 in 2023, to 20 in 2024), while investigations initiated due to reports from the state police have decreased by around 70.8%.
For this period, a total of 300 criminal reports were filed with the Special Prosecution Office, of which about 8.3% of the cases were not within the competence of the Special Prosecution Office.
In the function of criminal prosecution and in compliance with the legal provisions on the division of subject matter jurisdiction for criminal offenses, during 2024, the Special Prosecution Office, after having conducted full investigations, transferred 87 criminal proceedings with 114 persons under investigation to the District Prosecutors' Offices.
This number of proceedings is the same as the previous year.
