Suella Braverman, Secretary of State for internal affairs for the government, has reported to Parliament on the situation of immigrants, as she has faced criticism for her rhetoric towards Albanians.
She did not answer the question of how many of the 12,301 Albanians who arrived by raft during 2022 have been deported.
The MPs said that there is little evidence to consider that Albanians who arrived illegally are at risk for their lives in Albania and can be granted asylum.
The members of the "select committee" asked politicians and political commentators on English television "to be careful and restrained in the language used so as not to single out Albanians as the only ones who are increasing the pressure where the asylum system is located."
" Great Britain should improve awareness of the employment visa programs available to Albanian citizens, which could turn into a different offer than those of traffickers who cross the Channel by dinghy, and this would reduce the current pressure on the asylum system research ", they emphasized.
During 2022, according to the report, the British government issued 325 employment visas to Albanian applicants.
" The perception of the difficulties encountered in obtaining English work visas through legal channels forces Albanians to choose clandestine emigration routes. Therefore this parliamentary committee encourages the government to promote possible work visas for the vacant countries so that interceptions from legal work return to Albania. We suggest that these visas be granted for seasonal work in the construction and agriculture sectors ", the report emphasizes.
