Tax for TikTokers and Instagram and Facebook influencers, the government

From January 1, 2024, the Ministry of Finance intends to collect taxes also from individuals who generate income from foreign internet platforms. This category, which until now had escaped taxation for the most part, includes all residents who earn from TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, Google. Bloggers in this way will be required to pay income tax at the rate of 15%.

Also, individuals who list their properties for daily rent on booking platforms such as Booking and AirBNB, as well as resellers or advertisers, who are paid by online commerce platforms such as Amazon and Alibaba, will also be taxed.

The plan to identify these individuals, according to the new guidance of the Ministry of Finance and Economy, relies on the payments that these companies make to these individuals through bank accounts.

According to AirBNB data, over 16,800 active properties for daily rent operate in Albania, over 3,500 properties in Booking. While a large number of influencers in Albania declare that they earn a staggering income from TikTok or Instagram.

The 15% tax on this income is intended to be withheld, but even if they escape the first tax sieve, these individuals are obliged to make the payment of the obligation in the annual income statement. / Scan
