Helena Kadare, a lifelong companion with Kadare, has revealed interesting details from the great writer in a 2017 interview, conducted in Paris with Mira Kazan.
Kadare hated wishing him a happy birthday.

The companion of his life also showed at that time how they addressed each other. He called her Beka, because her name was Bebeka until she was 3 years old. Yes or no?
"It was only for the book that I didn't mention him for a moment with his whole long name. When he came from Russia, he came under the name Smill. That's what they called him there, or he himself found it that way, to escape his name Ismail. He even tried to include it in the first book of poems he published in Moscow. But this was received badly in Albania, and he was forced to write a letter to the Russian publisher: I'm sorry, but I inadvertently gave you my name incorrectly! My name is Ismail and not Smill".
Other facts, not so well known about Kadare, are the wearing of shoes larger than the actual size of the foot. As for the Chanel 5 perfume, Kadare said that every woman should use it at least once. This is the closest scent to them.
Kadare passed away this morning leaving a nation in pain.
