Doctors in the Toxicology Service at the "Mother Teresa" Hospital Center in Tirana say they are in a rush.
"With the increase in temperatures, toxicological cases have also begun to increase. More intoxications from alcohol, along with other substances. The amount of alcohol consumption is also increasing, as is the combination with other substances, narcotics. Alcohol ranges from beer, wine and various cocktails, all kinds," said doctor Matilda Kambo for "Abc News".
The most frequent patients who seek the help of toxicologists are boys and girls, mainly young. More so during the weekend. According to the doctor, some of them present in serious health conditions.
"In general, cases increase during the weekend due to the holidays that occur during the summer season. Cases that come to the emergency room, but also mentioning here cases that are hospitalized due to various addictions," added Matilda Kambo.
They can also come in alcoholic comas. So the alcohol level is so high that the patient begins to lose consciousness. He must receive therapy and come out of the state. They are mainly young, ranging in age from 20, 25, 30, 35 years old.
Meanwhile, in these times of high temperatures, alcohol can cause serious poisoning, and doctors list other harms that come from it.
"Alcohol is a drug like all other drugs and alcohol harms. It harms the body, it harms the heart, it harms the brain, it ages us, alcohol dementia, alcohol doesn't refresh us, alcohol dehydrates us and makes us sick," the doctor concluded.
There have also been many tourists who, due to excessive alcohol consumption, have sought help at the emergency room at the University Hospital Center in Tirana.
