Dentist Enisa Dushaj spoke about the tragedy with the 3-year-old child who died due to an overdose of anesthesia in a dental clinic.
Dushaj stated that this may have been caused by an overdose, as general anesthetics always cause the patient to lose consciousness.
Enisa Dushaj: "From the information I received, it was caused by an overdose of anesthesia developed by a doctor. Types of anesthesia are divided into local anesthesia, focused on specific sites of action. And general anesthesia that causes the patient to lose consciousness. There is an age group that becomes general anesthesia. In general anesthesia, it is performed by a specialist doctor and is specialized in the treatment of this dose.
Blood tests and heart tests should be done first, as there may be problems later. And then the patient is put under general anesthesia.
Enisa Dushaj: "There are many clinics that operate this type of service, but always moderated by a specialized doctor, such as an anesthesiologist/ before entering here, blood tests must be done, even after the ECG check. Risks caused by the general injection of general anesthesia can cause swelling in the heart, pulmonary embolism and other minor risks such as vomiting.”
The parent should also consult the doctor and be informed about the effects of anesthesia.
Enisa Dushaj: "Before the child is put under anesthesia, I believe that a consultation was made with the parent or accompanying person at the dental clinic. In these cases, the patient or the parent fills in the illnesses that the child may have had or the illness that he has. Be aware of all the risks that general anesthesia causes.
As a rule and dental protocol, the patient must be aware of the procedures to be performed.
From the treatment that the child needed or the treatment that was offered by the dental clinic. It depends on how many injections were given and the follow-up of the procedure."
Every dental clinic should have an anesthesiologist in addition to the dentist who performs anesthesia.
Enisa Dushaj: "Dental clinics must be equipped with an anesthesiologist to enable the control and monitoring of the patient by the dentist. If there are any complications that the patient may experience during treatment at the clinic. The clinic must be equipped with the relevant dentist and anesthesiologist.
The child may have developed complications after anesthesia or the child may have an illness in this case." / Fax Web
