Today, air transport in Albania has received a great development, becoming an important factor in the growth of the country's economy.
The increase in the number of visitors, which reached the figure of 10 million, has led to more flights in the Albanian territory than a few years ago.
Just a few days ago, the 7 millionth passenger landed at this airport. The doubling of the number of travelers has increased the economy by at least 5%, the Gross Domestic Product according to the reports of international agencies and various experts.
But this change came after the addition of low-cost shipping lines. A few years ago, Rinas airport was a monopoly, dictating extremely high prices for travelers. But in 2020 with the arrival of the "Kastrati Group" at the top, the owners chose to lower the fees and invest large sums of money to modernize the airport services.
Changes were noticed; with tickets at very cheap prices, it had the effect of increasing the flow of travelers. This flow is expected to increase more since just a month ago another company, Ryanair, entered the Albanian market, increasing competition in airlines.
Adding lines is exhausting capacity, so the only option the authorities have is to add terminals or build a second one. The continuous increase in the number of passengers reflects the success of Tirana International Airport's strategic initiatives aimed at increasing connecting flights and access. / TCH
