Lawyer Brizida Gjikondi says that the decision of the Supreme Court, to overturn the decision of the Court of Appeal, regarding the stamp of the Democratic Party, was taken under the pressure of former Prime Minister Sali Berisha, who called a protest this Wednesday, while the judges were considering the issue.
In an interview for "Newsline" on ABC News, Gjikondi said that this decision shows that the Albanian judiciary still has a way to have integrity and courage in giving decisions and that justice depends on politics.
" I see that the Albanian judiciary still has a way to go in order to have integrity, courage, and professionalism in rendering decisions. I did not like it, it did not leave a good taste, I thought that both the Supreme Court and the Court of Appeal are under the fierce pressure of politics. I wouldn't rule out the possibility of Berisha pressing beyond what we see. That he never found anything from the pressures he made. It is not in the morals of a justice to be compensated by street pressure and give such a decision. Since Agron Zhukri gave that scandalous decision, it's been two years, I never expected the Supreme Court to enter into the merits, there was no need to take it, let it completely destroy the decision and take it to the First Instance.
The Supreme Court had political integrity and independence, to decide whether Zhukri's decision is legal or not. It leaves a very bad taste to me. As long as Zhukri's seal is in force, the Supreme Court annulled the decision of the Appeal, despite the fact that it is appealable, we do not have a suspension measure against Zhukri's decision. This shows that justice is dependent on politics, there may be factors and interventions beyond DP, I would not be surprised if this chaos interests other elements as well. For how long has Berisha lost his personal seal, I don't know if he wants that seal to hold it hostage, because that party is shattered. If they want the stamp for the museum, let them keep it. I don't believe that Berisha will be able to keep the seal, because someone will have the courage to go to the bottom of it" , she emphasized.
