The fourth quarter of 2023 has marked rapid developments for the transport sector. According to INSTAT data, the number of passengers who flew by air increased by 48%.
There were also more vehicle purchases, which were 52% higher than in the last quarter of 2022, mainly in the capital. Tirana took 38.3% of the total road vehicles registered in the country in the fourth quarter of 2023.
"Mercedez Benz" continues to remain the main brand on Albanian roads, with 18% of the total, but it is gradually losing its reign, since the new vehicles that are being bought are more of the "Volkswagen" brand. The latter took 21.8% of the new vehicles registered for the first time, followed by the "Mercedez Benz" brand with 17.5%.
Maritime transport also increased, according to INSTAT data.
Air passengers increased by 48%
20 airlines operate in air transport, of which 18 are foreign companies and 2 are Albanian companies. During the fourth quarter of 2023, 66,262 planes flew in the Albanian airspace, of which 79% were the number of overpasses.
The volume of goods (including mail) entering and exiting via air transport was 515.4 tons, of which 76.0% are incoming goods and 24.0% are outgoing goods. Compared to the fourth quarter of 2022, the volume of goods is presented with a decrease of 12.0%.
In air transport, goods transported by mail account for 13.2% of the total volume of goods transported by air. Compared to the fourth quarter of 2022, the volume of goods transported by mail is presented with a decrease of 23.2%.
In the fourth quarter of 2023, 1,890,085 passengers traveled by airline. Compared to the same period of 2022, this indicator has increased by 48.3%.
The volume of traded goods (export and import) by air in the fourth quarter of 2023 is 408 tons.
Compared to the same period of 2022, this indicator decreased by 4.0%.
The volume of goods imported by air in the fourth quarter of 2023 accounts for 0.02% of the total volume of imported goods.
Road transport, Tirana leads for vehicles, "Mercedez Benz" is the leading brand, but "Volkswagen" is growing rapidly
The length of the road network in use is 3,606* km, classified according to different categories, such as highway, main interurban road, secondary interurban road, urban road and local road. Secondary interurban roads occupy about 74.2% of the length of the road network.
In the fourth quarter of 2023, the total number of road vehicles with "active" and "temporarily deregistered" status circulating in the territory of the Republic of Albania until December 2023 is 867,765 vehicles.
Në kategorinë e mjeteve rrugore sipas llojit, përqindjen më të madhe ndaj numrit gjithsej të mjeteve rrugore e zënë “Autoveturat” (80,6 %), “Automjetet për transport të përzier” (6,2 %) dhe “Motor” (5,5 %).
Në tremujorin e katërt 2023, numri më i lartë i mjeteve rrugore është regjistruar në qarkun e Tiranës, duke zënë 34,7 % të mjeteve rrugore gjithsej të regjistruara në vend, pasuar nga qarku i Durrësit me 13,4 % të mjeteve rrugore gjithsej.
Qarqet me numrin më të vogël të mjeteve rrugore janë qarku i Gjirokastrës me 2,2 % dhe qarku i Kukësit me 2,3 % të mjeteve rrugore gjithsej.
Marka “Mercedez Benz” është marka me qarkullim më të lartë në vend në kategorinë e mjeteve rrugore me 18,0 %, e ndjekur nga marka “Volkswagen” me 15,8 % dhe “Daimler Chrysler” 8,8 %.
Gjatë tremujorit të katërt 2023, janë regjistruar për herë të parë 21.900 mjete rrugore, me rritje 52.1% me bazw vjetore. Në kategorinë e mjeteve rrugore sipas llojit të regjistruar për herë të pare, përqindjen më të madhe ndaj numrit gjithsej të mjeteve rrugore e zënë “Autoveturat” (84,6 %) dhe “Motor” zënë (5,4 %).
Marka “Volkswagen” është marka me qarkullim më të lartë në vend në kategorinë e mjeteve rrugore të regjistruara për herë të parë me 21,8 %, e ndjekur nga marka ““Mercedez Benz” me 17,5 %.
Në Shqipëri operojnë katër porte detare të cilët shërbejnë për transport mallrash: Porti i Durrësit, Vlorës, Shëngjinit dhe porti i Limjonit (Sarandë). Porti i Durrësit është porti kryesor në vend prej të cilit janë transportuar 94,3 % e volumit të mallrave të transportuar me det, ose 1.641 mijë ton mallra. Volumi gjithsej i mallrave të transportuara nga porti i Durrësit është rritur me 7,5 %, krahasuar me të njëjtën periudhë të një viti më parë.

(Nomeklatura e Statistikave të Transportit), për tremujorin e katërt 2023 paraqiten si më poshtë:
Grupi “Metale bazë; produkte metalike të fabrikuara, përveç makinerive dhe pajisjeve” përbën 14,2 % të mallrave të transportuara nga portet;
Grupi “Koks dhe produktet e rafinuara të naftës” përbën 12,7 % të mallrave të transportuara;
Grupi i mallrave “Produkte të tjera minerale ( jo metalike)” përbën 11,2 % të mallrave të transportuara;
Grupi i mallrave “Qymyr dhe linjit; naftë bruto dhe gaz natyror” përbën 8,9 % të mallrave të transportuar.
Numri i anijeve të hyra dhe të dala nga portet në vend rezulton 207 anije, nga këto 168 anije janë të huaja dhe 39 anije vendase. Numri i anijeve të hyra dhe të dala në porte është rritur me 81,6 %, ku numri anijeve të huaja është rritur me 80,6 %, krahasuar me tremujorin e katërt 2022.
Portet detare ku kryhet transporti pasagjerëve në vend janë: Porti i Durrësit, Vlorës, Sarandës dhe porti i Shëngjinit. Lëvizja e pasagjerëve në tremujorin e katërt 2023 është kryer nga porti i Durrësit, Vlorës dhe porti i Sarandës.

The port of Durrës is the main port in the country from which 64.7% of passengers traveled, followed by the port of Saranda with 24.9% and then the port of Vlora with 10.4%.
In the fourth quarter of 2023, the volume of goods traded by sea (export and import) is 1,389.5 thousand tons. Compared to the same period of 2022, this indicator has increased by 8.8%.
The volume of goods exported by sea in the fourth quarter of 2023 accounts for 41.8% of the total volume of exported goods.
