The session at GJKKO against the acting mayor of Himara, Jorgo Goro, has been postponed. He was handcuffed on Saturday at the request of the Special Prosecutor's Office, while today it was expected that the security measure would be verified and he would be interrogated.
Since Saturday, when he was handcuffed, March 23, he has been transferred to the security block in Tirana, from where he will be accompanied to be sent to the court for verification of the security measure. The arrest of the acting mayor was made while he was in a bar in Himare in the company of some of his friends. The execution of the measure took place only a few hours after the decision taken by the Special Court.
Goro was handcuffed with suspicions that he abused his office on two occasions. In the first case, according to SPAK, Goro together with the Director of Land Protection and Management in the Municipality, Jerasimo Bashi, forwarded to other institutions forged documents for a property over 5,500 square meters in Dhërmi, without carrying out verifications, leading to in the registration of state property in favor of private individuals.
Even in the second case, both of them, referred to the Prosecutor's Office, have moved an area of agricultural land over 5 thousand square meters, superimposing it on another property owned by the state.
Meanwhile, the former director of ASHK Vlorë, Bilbil Aliaj, and the former lawyer at this institution, Vezir Gjikoka, have been left under "house arrest". The security measures were executed this Saturday for the last two and Jorgo Goron, as the former official of the Municipality, Jerasimo Bashi and the citizen Stavri Mëhilli were declared wanted.
Regarding Mehilli, SPAK says that he has used forged documents and forms more than once at the institutions, which then brought about the initial registration in the name of Foto Mehilli of the agricultural land surface of 5512 m2 in Dhërmi.
After the registration of the property in the name of the heirs, including the citizens under investigation, it was continued with the transactions which concluded in the registration of the property in the name of the private company with representative Artan Gacin, bringing also the unfair benefit to Mihilli who is accused of falsification of documents.
Gaci bought the land to invest, while he was not aware of how he had benefited from Mëhilli, through forgery. The report for this case was made by the elected mayor of Himara, Fredi Beleri, who is in jail after being sentenced to 2 years in prison for buying and selling votes during the local elections of May 14, 2023.
The arrest of Goros has also provoked a reaction in the Greek media, which have widely reflected this development that came after the report of Fredi Beleri. With the arrest of Jorgo Goro, the municipality of Himara remains without a mayor, as Fredi Beleri, the mayor elected in the elections of May 14, 2023, is in prison after being sentenced to 2 years in prison for vote buying.
