The Court of General Appeals has upheld the "prison arrest" security measure for Gjon Shkambi, the uncle of Elvis Shkambi, who killed Judge Astrit Kalaja on the afternoon of October 6 inside the courtroom.
Shkambi remains in prison on suspicion of “inciting crime” and possible knowledge of his nephew’s actions, while investigations continue. The October 6 incident sparked widespread reactions and raised concerns about security in court premises.
The murder of Astrit Kalase occurred at around 3:35 p.m. on October 6, during a court hearing on the subject of "Opposition of Enforcement Actions", where the plaintiff was citizen Ragip Kurtaj, accompanied by his son Ervis Kurtaj, while the defendant was the bailiff TM and third parties were citizens Gjon Shkambi and his nephew Elvis Shkambi.
According to investigative data, Gjon Shkambi made no attempt to stop his nephew during the criminal act, raising reasonable suspicions that he was aware of the plan to kill the judge and that he played an auxiliary or instigating role.
After the shooting, Elvis Shkambi handed the weapon to another court employee and was immediately stopped in the institution's courtyard by police services.
