Murder of Appeals Judge, Journalist: Serious Act, We Need to Understand Why We

Journalist Andi Tela has described the killing of a judge in a courtroom as unprecedented. He said that this act marks a dark point in the history of Albanian justice.

Andi Tela also said that the judge represents the symbol of law and justice on behalf of the Republic, so an attack on him is an attack on the state itself.

The journalist emphasized that it is important to understand why we came to this point, beyond all the messages given every day by the public and the praise given to the perpetrator.

"What has happened is on the verge of the unimaginable. You could say that a taboo has been broken. To think of killing a judge in a courtroom is something that I don't know of that has happened anywhere except Albania. So, judges have been killed, more have been killed... we are used to Italy, to the mafia, but they are prosecutors, not judges. The judge is always the one who wants justice and in Albania the judge gives justice in the name of the Republic. So we have all agreed that whoever has problems, goes and solves them in court. Politics does this, individuals do this, associations do this, so everyone has the right to solve it in court.

And the judge is the symbol of justice. So, when this murder happens, there is no need for these 'elegies' that happen in such cases. Everyone sends messages of condolence, everyone tries to react with harsh language to the violence that has occurred. It is important to understand why it happened, why it has come to this point. It is very simple to say that we will take measures, the body of judges will gather, the body of prosecutors will gather, the state will react, the prime minister will react, the interior ministry will react. Why did we come to this point?

"To understand why we came to this point beyond all the messages that are given every day by the public and beyond the fact that almost 80% of the network in the most absurd way possible, but understandable by us here in Albania. They go and give praise and merit to the author of the murder... we have to say why? And if you see the trial as it happened, between the two details of the trial you understand that it was not Astrit Kalaja who should have been killed for this. The trial between the two parties was one of those that are usually called banal," he said for "Syri Tv".
