The elections for the head of the Muslim Community of Albania have been accompanied by protests.
A group of Muslim believers who are against the current leaders of the Albanian Muslim Community are protesting in parallel with the elections.
They accuse the current leaders of being Gulenists and members of the infamous FETO group in Turkey, as well as calling the elections illegitimate.
This group is the same that drove the mufti from the mosque to the "Dine Hoxha" mosque.
We remind you that the voting will take place in the premises of the Madrasah of Tirana, after the end of the 5-year mandate of the current mayor Bujar Spahiu, elected on March 2, 2019.
Candidates are the current mayor Spahiu, Eduard Shefki, Administrator of the Mufti of Durrës and Emirjon Vathaj, Mufti of Berat.
These elections are held amid accusations and controversies that the Muslim Community of Albania is captured by Fet'hullah Gülen's people, or as they consider it, the FETO organization. A part of Muslim believers consider today's elections as "an orchestrated theater".
