A fire engulfed the old people's home in Fier this afternoon. The fire occurred as a result of an electrical spark that occurred in the building near the old people's home.
Amid the panic over the sudden incident, the elderly of the Fier asylum have shown the moment when the building was engulfed in flames and the efforts to get out as soon as possible.
One of the elderly women says that she was in the room when she smelled smoke and then the fire alarm went off.
She also says that it was difficult to get out through the stairs as the smoke had covered the entire building.
"When I saw it, smoke was coming. The siren always goes off for a minor incident. When I saw the smoke, I told my roommate, get up, the house is filling up with you. And we ran away, when we went to the second stairs, we couldn't catch our breath. Then they came and helped us. There were no incidents. I've been here for 6 years and it hasn't changed. Electric spark what can not give. We were all inside. All the smoke came in and we were trapped inside. We are all inside. No one touches thanks to God. It was a moment of panic but not harmful," said an elderly woman.
Another said a huge fire could be seen from outside, while the corridor filled with smoke.
"Inside I was in the room. There was a window and it looked like a big fire. Only smoke, nothing else. You couldn't see. The corridor was filled with smoke and you couldn't pass," said another .
The elderly will be kept in the hospital tonight, to see their health progress.
