The Assembly has received additional funds from the budget, after MPs exhausted their money...
The members of the Albanian Parliament have benefited from a full 1 billion lek from the state budget during the past year. Even though they are cursed, beaten, insulted and their chairs set on fire, when it comes to money, everyone becomes devout and no one refuses.
The Assembly has released data on the salaries and benefits of MPs for the entire past year. According to statistics compiled by "Pamphlet". Only for the salaries of legislators have been spent 343,803,027 lek. While for bonuses, which include per diem, mobile phone reimbursement, hotel payments, rent, etc., 221,971,482 lek were spent from January to November. (December has not yet been reflected). In total, MPs have spent a full 1,009,717,473 new lek during 2024.
Anyone can say that they know the law. But the scandal is that in August of last year, the Assembly received additional funds from the budget, this after the deputies had exhausted their money. The Ministry of Finance allocated 90 million lek in additional funds, this after the deputies had traveled abroad a lot and received per diem benefits.
" 57 million lek have been planned for the entire year 2024, while in the 8-month period 40 million, or 70% of the annual plan, have been spent on this item. With this progress, an additional 5-6 million budget will be needed for this item. For the 8-month period, 105 orders have been issued for trips abroad, for the travel of a total of 339 people, of whom 212 MPs, 25 political staff and 122 administrative staff. For these trips, 7 million lek were spent on per diems, 17 million lek on tickets and 16 million lek on hotels and others (such as taxis, translations, car rentals, participation fees) ," the document states.
This also explains the struggle to secure a parliamentary mandate. If we do a simple calculation, each MP benefits on average 72 million old lek per year or, more precisely, about 6 million lek per month. /Pamphlet
