"One Albania Scandal", Competition Authority: The fault of citizens who do not read contracts
The telephone company "One Albania" seems to be going to take a break from the sudden increase in tariffs.
As the whole world faces a financial crisis and rising oil prices, One Albania has applied new tariffs for its services since May, justifying them with rising inflation.
The Competition Authority launched an investigation into the increase in these tariffs, but it seems that there will be no punishment, and it is accepted that the company itself has to some extent trapped subscribers.
The head of the Competition Authority, Denar Biba, was today in the Economy Committee, where he was questioned by the opposition about the tariff increase. But according to him, the fault lies with the citizens who do not read the contracts. According to him, in the contracts that everyone has signed with One, the tariff increase in case of inflation is determined.
" In the relevant contracts that citizens have signed, including certainly us who are clients of One, in the relevant contract that we have signed, you, me, our family members who are clients of the One company, it is clearly stipulated, despite the small print, on 3-4 pages, that none of us reads, for better or worse, that the company has the right to index prices in the event of increased inflationary pressures in the market ," said the Chairman of the Competition Authority.
He further stated that measures would be taken to determine new criteria for mobile phone company contracts, but did not provide a guarantee, arguing that his institution had nothing in hand.
" This was foreseen in the contract and the citizen-client accepted it, even without reading it at all. I guarantee you on behalf of the commission that in the next decision... We are not responsible. I constantly see how, also because of our protagonism, we receive deserved criticism. I do not retreat from this and how well you keep us in working positions, but there are regulatory institutions: AKEP, AMA, AFSA. We are controllers, not regulators. And these relationships, such as contracts. We will also demand a fine so that these several formulas are reformulated by the companies. Those contracts are approved by the sectoral regulator ", said Biba.
One Albania has been at the center of accusations for years. Since the Hungarians took over, there has been a lack of service, citizens have complained about lack of internet, signal, and server downtime. But as the government changed in Hungary and One Albania's parent company is facing a storm, the Hungarians rushed to increase tariffs in Albania to earn more. /Pamphlet
