In 2019, Blendi Gonxhe, appointed Director of Road Transport Services, created the "AUTO-RETRO" structure, selling it as an "innovative idea for keeping the automotive history alive in Albania". However, after investigations and discovered documents, this structure has turned out to be a vehicle for personal gain for his family, using the state budget to support projects closely linked to his private wealth and businesses. Bledi Gonxhe, after being appointed to this position, created a financial structure of 1.3 million Euros per year, which served to finance a project that was in direct line with his family's interests.
Through this structure, Gonxhe used the opportunity to profit through the association "Retro-Albania-Koleksioni Shqiptar", which turned into an opportunity to increase the business activities of his son, Dante Gonxhe, and his family. This activity has included several companies involved in the construction sector, taxi services, car rental and international transport. This is a clear case of using state opportunities to create private profits, using positions of power and strong family ties.
Another example of this abuse is the creation of the "Auto Moto-Park" of Elbasan, where the association of his son and Blendi Gonxhe will manage several business areas separated from a 190 million Euro project financed by the government for the construction of this park. While this project has been announced as an opportunity for the development of tourism and automotive history, it has been used as an opportunity to favor the private companies of the Gonxhe family, which will benefit from this state wealth.
In this context, the vehicles of "Auto Retro" are beneficiaries of special status, giving them the opportunity to be exempt from luxury taxes and to pass without customs stops, another advantage that has been exploited to favor the private interests of the Gonxhe family businesses. This abuse of public assets is a clear example of how corrupt politicians use their positions to obtain illicit wealth and launder money, by manipulating state budgets and projects.
This scandal requires an in-depth investigation by the competent authorities and rigorous control over the use of state funds, to prevent abuses and ensure that public assets are used in the interest of citizens and not for the enrichment of individuals and groups connected to power./ Pamphlet
