Gaza's civil defense agency said an airstrike hit a hospital, killing at least seven. While Israel said it has targeted the militants in the building that is no longer functional. According to the civil defense agency in Gaza, the airstrike hit the upper floors of Al-Wafa hospital in Gaza City.
The Israeli military said it carried out a "precision strike" targeting members of an air defense team of Hamas - the Palestinian group designated a terrorist organization by the United States and the European Union - which it said were operating "from a command center which are located in the building that used to be the Al-Wafaa hospital".
"This building is not currently functioning as a hospital," the Israeli military said. The Ministry of Health in Gaza said that the hospital is still functioning.
"Al-Wafaa Hospital partially operates, provides for patients who have physical problems," said the ministry.
The attack on Al-Wafaa hospital came a day after Israel completed an operation inside the Kamal Adwan hospital in northern Gaza, which the World Health Organization said would force patients and staff to leave the building.
The Israeli army has also arrested the director of this hospital, Hossam Abu Safiyeh, saying that he is suspected of being a member of Hamas.
Since October 6 this year, Israel has focused its military operations in northern Gaza, saying it is aiming to prevent Hamas from regrouping. However, the Israeli army is carrying out airstrikes and shelling in other parts of the Palestinian enclave./ REL
